Robotic Systems for Sustainable Development
This presentation explored how robotic systems can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular emphasis on SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. The goal was to investigate the role of robots in enhancing infrastructure maintenance, reducing traffic, automating waste management, supporting renewable energy systems, and aiding in disaster response.
I was responsible for the entire project — from concept development and research to slide design and delivery. I selected case studies, sourced licensed visuals, and structured the presentation to clearly communicate both the potential and the ethical considerations of robotics in sustainable development.
Through this project, I deepened my understanding of how robotics can support environmental and social goals while grappling with concerns such as privacy, accessibility, safety, and job displacement. It also honed my ability to synthesise technical research into an engaging, ethically conscious narrative for a general audience.
