Neutron Scattering Simulation

Computational Physics · University of Manchester

A Monte Carlo simulation of neutrons scattering through shielding materials, built in Python to study how neutron transport depends on the medium.

What I did

  • Implemented a Monte Carlo simulation of neutron paths through different shielding materials, modelling absorption and scattering events.
  • Compared transmission, reflection, and absorption rates across materials and thicknesses.
  • Analysed and visualised the results in a Jupyter notebook.

What I took away

  • Practical experience with Monte Carlo methods and their statistical behaviour.
  • Stronger skills in scientific Python and communicating computational results.

The notebook is on GitHub.
